Overview
A sensitively designed orangery extension to a listed Hall to replace the temporary marquee, incorporating the rebuilding of a outbuilding to create permanent WC, accommodation and a guest entrance.
Site History – Yeldersley Hall
Yeldersley Hall is a stunning exclusive wedding venue in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside, accommodating weddings, special occasions and private functions. The Grade II Listed Country House is privately owned and dates from 18th Century, with alterations in early 19th Century and again in 1910.
Permission had previously been granted for a temporary marquee to be located off the Hall to the rear of the site for 9 months of the year. The client wished to be able to offer a permanent structure to their clients, provide year round functions and to accommodate the washroom facilities without having to hire external portable washroom facilities.
A property of this size and stature takes a considerable amount of effort to run and money to look after the maintenance and repairs. By investing and providing a continued sustainable business use the Hall can be maintained and protected for future generations to enjoy and appreciate.
The Proposals
The timber framed glazed orangery is linked to the remodelled 1910 bay to the Hall with a subservient glazed link. The roof has a large roof lantern to allow more natural light into the space and the existing brick garden wall is left exposed to appreciate the setting and heritage of the building.
Glazed doors open out on to a section of patio to the rear and side to allow for garden receptions and enjoy the views out across the rolling Derbyshire countryside.
Upon arrival the guests would enter through a new glazed link with a metal roof, the glazing would allow for the garden wall to be read from both sides of the proposal and be visually inviting. The link creates a new access through to the existing Hall, an access to the new function space and in the new washroom facilities accommodating 5 large independent toilets.
An exciting project, and one we look forward to seeing develop to completion.
