Director - Chartered Town Planner
Richard Pigott is a chartered town planner who began his planning career in local government, working as a planning officer at both Macclesfield Borough Council in Cheshire and Windsor & Maidenhead Council in Berkshire.
Richard Pigott is a Chartered Town Planner with over 25 years’ experience in both the public and private sectors, providing expert planning consultancy services across Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Staffordshire and the wider Midlands region. Richard achieved Chartered status in 2009 and, following seven years in local government, joined Planning & Design Practice in 2011. He became a Director in 2015 and has played a key role in the growth and strategic development of the practice.
Richard has a proven track record of successfully managing planning applications for residential and commercial developments, including large-scale and complex schemes requiring the coordination of multiple technical reports. He works closely with clients, consultants and local authorities to deliver policy compliant and commercially viable planning solutions.
His particular specialism is in Green Belt development and planning strategy, having gained experience working within ‘Green Belt’ planning authorities in Cheshire and Berkshire. Richard has a detailed understanding of Green Belt policy, development constraints, and the evolving ‘Grey Belt’ planning designation, enabling him to advise clients on maximising development potential in sensitive planning contexts.
Richard is very well versed in the promotion of land through the Local Plan process, representing clients at Local Plan examinations in public. He has extensive experience of the planning appeal process, having appeared as an expert witness at numerous planning inquires for both public and private clients.
Based in Derbyshire, Richard brings strong regional knowledge alongside national planning expertise, supporting clients with planning permission, site promotion, and strategic land development across the area.
Outside of work, Richard enjoys golf, outdoor pursuits and endurance events, including mountain marathons, alongside spending time with his family.
