Planning & Design Practice brings together planning, architecture, heritage, rural development and urban design expertise in one team. We work across a wide range of sectors, supporting homeowners, developers, businesses and public sector bodies on projects of all scales.

What matters to us is not just producing drawings or reports, but helping clients understand the process, make informed decisions and move forward with the right strategy for their site, brief and wider context.

Meet our team

A joined-up team

Our team includes RTPI Chartered Town Planners, RIBA Chartered Architects, architectural assistants and heritage specialists with experience drawn from different backgrounds across the UK and Europe.

That mix of disciplines allows us to look at projects in the round, combining policy, design, heritage and delivery considerations from the outset.

Our planners have worked in both the public and private sectors and have strong working relationships with Local Planning Authorities. Our architects and architectural team bring experience across homeowner, developer and public sector projects, while our heritage specialists help shape proposals that respond carefully to historic buildings and sensitive settings.

Values that guide our work

Planning consultants, architects and heritage specialists with years of experience across a wide range of clients — supporting homeowners, developers, businesses and public bodies on projects of every scale.

We review the site, the planning context and the aims of the project to give you a clearer view of what may be possible. This can include looking at planning policy, site constraints, access, heritage, design considerations and the most appropriate route forward. The aim is to help you make informed decisions before committing unnecessary time or cost.

Yes. While no consultant can guarantee a planning outcome, we can give you a professional view on the strengths, risks and likely planning issues. We will explain what may support the proposal, what could cause concern, and whether further design work, evidence or a different strategy may improve the chances of success.

Yes. Our heritage specialists work alongside our planning and architectural teams on listed buildings, conservation areas and sensitive historic settings. We can help with heritage appraisals, listed building consent, planning applications and proposals where change needs to be handled carefully and well evidenced.

No. We have offices in Sheffield, Matlock and Macclesfield, and work with clients across Derbyshire, the Peak District, the East Midlands and beyond. Much of our work is regional, but we also support projects further afield where our planning, architecture, heritage or rural development expertise is the right fit.

Yes. We can review the decision notice or enforcement correspondence, explain the issues clearly, and advise on the best next step. Depending on the circumstances, that may involve an appeal, a revised application, negotiation with the Local Planning Authority, or a strategy for resolving the enforcement matter.
