Marketing Derby -Office Politics

Marketing Derby recently gathered together a panel experts including our Senior Architect David Symons, to discuss Derby City Council’s aim to make the city centre more attractive as a base for business.

Together with representatives from Innes England, Nelsons Solicitors, FHP, Salloway, BB&J, Nielsen McAllister and Oviso Financial Services, the Talking Business debate addressed the topic “From Business Park to City Centre”. Chaired by John Forkin, MD of Marketing Derby the debate began by setting out context of a national trend towards business parks, in Derby’s case Pride Park, the effect of the Covid pandemic on homeworking and with the fact that Derby has won the right to host the HQ of Great British Railways, but with no Grade A offices currently available in the city centre to house them.

At this year’s MIPIM global property fair in Cannes, Derby City Council launched a new city centre “First for Offices” prospectus which highlighted the 100,000 square foot Grade A offices planned as the 3rd stage of the Becketwell regeneration project, that has already delivered new performance venue Vaillant Live plus Derby’s first buy to let development The Condor. Also spotlighted was Derby Works, a 58,350 square foot Grade A office building that will be incorporated as part of the redeveloped Assembly Rooms site.

Plenty of food for thought for the panelists to debate. A full write up can be found in the latest Summer edition of Marketing Derby’s Innovate magazine, which is available at this LINK.
